Can I splice my rear 6x9 wires to power a single ten inch subwoofer?
I don't have an amp but someone said I could splice the wires from my two rear 6x9's and run the wires straight to the subwoofer. Would that work? I don't think it'd get much power if it did work but oh well, a little extra bump is all I'm aiming for anyway.
You cannot add a subwoofer and run it in addition to your rear speakers. That would reduce the load impedance below the 4-ohm minimum required by a head unit. Damage to the head unit could result.
Also, you cannot connect wires from the left and right output channels to the same subwoofer (unless it's a dual voice coil sub, in which case you could connect one channel to each coil). Again, this could damage the head unit.
You could connect a pair of 4-ohm subs, or a dual voice coil 4-ohm sub, in place of the rear speakers (rather than in addition to the speakers). You might not get much output, but you won't damage anything.
